Had another lady came in before we left for the funeral and wanted a bigger bowl than I had down at the art gallery. So I had a 15" piece of walnut that was about 4" thick. She told me it was for mainly a fruit display bowl and may use it at times for dinner rolls but that she wanted it shiney. So I finished up this piece on Monday and it is 13 1/2" X 3 1/2". It has 9 light coats of WOP. Not sure about that much shine but she saw it today and is extremely pleased plus she handed me a check for $75.:D I told her I would like it to cure for a couple of weeks and she said that was fine. I was pleased with the outcome especially using the new sanding routine up to 600 grit.

While I wouldn't like it on every bowl, I love the shine on this one. Especially knowing what it will be used for.

For the little woman I typically just use oil and while she loves that she is never sure if it is "clean". With that well finished a bowl and that shiny the LOML would always know if it was "clean" or not. Very will done. And thanks for the inspiration. Time to make her one with 9 coats of WOP.

Big ol' bowl Bernie!! Great looking walnut, so if she likes it...stamp it sold and move on. I'd like to see that one with a stealth finish on it. Nice to see you've put the tires in the garage and will be turning a bit!

Nuttin' like walnut to put a smile on my face... I can smell it from here....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

That sure turned out nice! That the customer loved it was a plus. And that you got a check for it is the exclamation point!

Bernie that looks like it was finished with liquid glass. Great job of turning and spend that money on some sunglasses to look at the bowl.

Thanks everyone. It is good to be back turning. I have about 30 more of thes blanks that I hope to core. Hope they all sell this well.

Mike Cruz the shop did smell great. 4 walnut bowls sure did make it smell good in there.

yep, Bernie the sanding well into the 600's & even 800's is quite beneficial. Your finishing is glass-like (in a good way) Super big bowl!

Bernie,
that is one fine BW plate / bowl. The finish is definitely shiney. And as far as your sanding goes I have to Thank You for posting about the supplies you got from Vince.
I broke down and ordered a complete setup from 80 to 800 grit along with the interface pads and arbors and can already see the difference. His advice did not hurt either.

Thanks again.

Dan the walnut sure does smell good. If I don't clean out the curlies it will smell good for a while.

Greg it sure has made a big difference in my finish on turned items. Glad to have helped.
