I met Bob Baccus one day last year when he and his lovely wife came up to buy some logs. Once they done selecting the ones they wanted, he saw one more shorty - I think it was about four feet long but the color and pattern really caught his eye. After having heard them describe the type of vases he turns, I must admit it piqued my curiosity enough to spontaneously offer it to him free of charge, if he would "...just turn one for me from the log and I'll load it."

I'm an very inexperienced turner with only a Delta Midi, so I was NOT expecting something like this:

222233

222234

Needles to say my wife and I were stunned when we opened this huge box, that had yet another big box in it, that had this absolute treasure in it. I know Bob frequents this forum and I wanted him and his wife to receive the accolades they are due not only for their generosity, but also the great talent that this humble man posses.

Thank you Bob & Vicki. We will treasure this forever.

Creekers (especially spinning Creekers) are just the best. Congrats on the treasure Kevin, and Bob, nice hollow form. :)

Beautiful piece, and what generosity...

I have to ask, though... What kind of wood is that? The holes and streaking suggest Ambrosia Maple, but the colors of the streaks are way too...red for it (or at least for around here).

Super gift! My first thought against the sky was a hot air balloon. You said it came in a huge box, but those balloons get pretty big. What is the size of this one?
