View Full Version : It is hard to believe

Hard to believe, but I have posted 6 whole pages of pictures of my work. The problem is,newer members like Klaus haven't seen them. A lot of other members apparently haven't seen them either. Like the infill jack plane I just posted, and re posted the old black and white photos as Klaus hadn't seen them. Lots of responses from some who hadn't seen the plane before.

I have several new things to post,as I just went through my slides and scanned them.

I am wondering if some of you would like me to re post things from a year or 2 ago? Let me know.

I wonder if you can start a photo album or collection here on smc george

If an article or photo album here at SMC could be put together, that would be terrific.

For anyone interested, however, you can simply click on George's name, and then click "view profile" - on the page it takes you to, click "Find latest started threads" - this will show you all, or most, of the threads George has started. George is pretty good (unlike some of us) at using a pretty descriptive thread title, so it's usually pretty obvious which ones are going to contain photos and info of things he's made, and what they are. So you should be able to click through the pages and find the things that interest you. You might miss a few things that George has posted to threads other folks have started, but you should find the majority of it.

It might take me a little bit, but if it'd be helpful, I'd be willing to take some time tomorrow to make a post with links to the pertinent threads George has made here, but I'm not sure it would offer much more than what folks can find on their own using the search function.

EDIT: Played with it a little and this "list of links" post shouldn't take me too long to make. I can definitely do this tomorrow morning if people think it's helpful.

Hi George - glad to see you're back.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I look forward to your threads - Partly for the "awe" factor; partly for the knowledge you impart; and partly for the inspiration they provide.
If you decide to re-post, might I suggest that you adopt a single naming convention for the title of each thread (suffixed with a number, for ex.) so that in the future, it would be easy to find them all.

Joe,you look just like James Bond. I would be afraid to make anything for you, because things suffer so much damage "in the field." !!!:):)

Why not start a gallery and then a post to point to it?

george wilson

I don't know how to do anything fancy, like a gallery. Still learning computers. I started VERY late in life. Besides, you'd lose all of the information about the objects that goes with the pictures.

You raise an interesting point George. Ideally, the gallery feature should let us add a brief description to go with each entry. I don't see any way to do that unless you create a new album for each object. Then you could add the narrative to go along with the photo's. That would work. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Somebody needs to help George start a personal web page or blog to showcase his wonderful works.

YES I do wish you would post them again.

I will if several express interest. I do not want to bore members, but there always do seem to be ones who did not see the old posts. And,there are those who cannot access the FAQ section. They REALLY need to contribute the $6.00. Just the FAQ section is worth the money. That's like the cost of a magazine or 2,where you are lucky to see a FEW decent pieces of work.

George:

I would more than appreciate it if you would re-post some of your older projects.

For what it is worth, I'd like to see them, too. Maybe a George Wilson thread with the work in one thread, which would allow you to post descriptions as long as you wanted for each piece. I bet it would get stickied. Somewhere there is a thread with a saw you made that I'm about to go search for....

Welcom back from your vacation, we have missed you at the mill. I would also enjoy seeing more of your work. Though i am a new member, I have reviewed the past pages and am enthralled in your work.
Thanks,

George,

Seeing your past projects is a delight, but would you consider using the blog feature built into sawmillcreek.org to repost your old and future posts? You can always make a forum post letting people know there is a new post on your blog. Here is an example: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/blog.php?70802-Ben-Arnott

You can also put a note in your signature to visit your blog to see your past projects. This, I think, be the most user-friendly way to disseminate this info, both for you and your followers.

I would enjoy looking at them again and again.

My practice with some of the longer threads of mine is to just post the URL into the thread for new information.

You can also add tags to the end of posts or threads.

Just a listing of the different items you made in one post with all the others having their own first post so the items can have comments separated from one another.

There are a few ways to get it done.

George,

I would enjoy re-seeing ones I've seen and especially seeing the ones I've missed! :)

George.. your being too modest, and a bit illogical..

You make beautiful tools.. Asking if we want pictures, well, that is like the Dallas cowboy cheerleaders asking if they can practice in my back yard and swim in my pool.. I don't have a pool, but I would start digging ..

Post the tool porn pics.. :)

I would love to see color pics of any tool you made, I haven't been responding but I enjoy seeing it very much.

Absolutely... Personally, I do have access to the FAQ section, but still, you and your work deserve to be famous everywhere....

I appreciate the replies. Probably what I'll do is not just re post things. I have new, extra pictures for some things, like the Brinkley compass and the 19th.C. style plane. I may re write the text to add things that I'd forgotten about,or just to generally improve it.

I do have some new projects to add, also, though I haven't been able to find my BEST slides which my sculpture teacher had borrowed-30 years ago!! I finally got them back, but when we moved they went missing. Hopefully they will turn up,because he selected the cream of the crop, naturally, leaving me with the over exposed, out of focus, etc. slides.

I agree that there there should be a "George Wilson" sticky.

It's hard to pick out what I like the best of Sawmill Creek, but seeing George's work is near the top.

Where is this FAQ? I've looked all around and don't see it.

I have to say I've been on a lot of forums, even admin a couple, but this one is the hardest to navigate I've ever seen.
That's why I don't post much and only drop in to read once in a while.

The FAQs is a sticky on top of the neanderthal forum. BTW the search feature can also be used to look for threads started by George, or if you left click his name it gives you some options to search older posts.

I really enjoy seeing your work, George. Please post any slides/pics as I know I've learnt an enormous amount of stuff by simply reading your posts.
Cheers,

George,

Reposting is the same as double posting which is not allowed here. We appreciate your contributions but this a very large Community who have to share the resources. There were over 28,000 pictures and file attachments uploaded last year to our server. If everyone decided to upload duplicate files we would surely have a problem on our end. Unlike some forums we don't delete threads and posts after a period of time. We feel that the information shared is valuable to everyone in the past, present and in the future. This year we will surpass 2 million posts and probably over 250,000 file attachments that reside permanently on our server.

The current version of vBulletin provides a means of using the files you have already uploaded. This feature is designed to help save file space and bandwidth.

O.K.,I hadn't realized that this was a problem. I don't know what vBulletin is. I hadn't planned to exactly duplicate old posts, but to make new additions of information, etc.,as I had mentioned. I'll have to find out if this is permitted.

Just add the new pictures to the ends of the old threads, and have a list like yesterday's in a single thread so that all newbies can find them. I saved the list of posts yesterday if you want it for reference, George, a post like that doesn't take any space. The forum software will prevent you from uploading the same picture twice, so you'll know whether or not you've posted a picture before as soon as you upload it - if you've done it before, it flat out won't let you do it again.
