View Full Version : Need Wall Switch with Light

I have a couple of light switches that control lights that cannot be seen from the switch location. I need some light switches that light up when the light is on. It's easy to find ones that light up when the light is off - they just put a neon bulb across the switch. Those are made so you can find them in the dark. I need the opposite.

Does anyone know of a residential light switch that lights up when the switch is on?

Go to http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/SectionDisplay.jsp?section=41455&minisite=10251 . In the navigation panel, click on "features". Select "Pilot light illuminated On". You should see a whole bunch.

I have at least three of the switches that light up when the switch is turned on in my house. I can't recall if I bought them at a home improvement store or elsewhere.

Thanks, Jamie. I should have added one additional criteria - I have Decor switches in my house and would like a Decor switch with a pilot light. That seems to make it harder to find.

We just purchased one at Lowes for my daughter. She had a closet with a light that was often left on. I installed the switch for her during our last visit. It has a separate lens that lights up when the power is on.

Maybe you will have to settle for a switch that is lit when the light is off and just know that if the switch is dark, the light is on.

My other thought involves a resistor, a neon bulb and a grommet to make your own.

Wow, you're awesome. And Amazon to boot. I need light almond but found it from your link (here (http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-5618-2T-Illuminated-Single-Pole-Residential/dp/B003AVLTKQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1328068357&sr=1-1)). Thank you very, very much.

I think I put this one in my bathroom for my very quiet exhaust fan. I bougjht it at either HD or Lowes. I'm not crazy about it because the light if faint, and it is nearly impossible to see in daylight, and completely impossible to see when the bathroom light is on.

I did a little digging and found this one though: http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-5628-2W-Illuminated-Single-Pole-Commercial/dp/B000U3I0RM

I have to order a few things from Amazon tomorrow, and I think I may add this to the order. I will be able to tell you this weekend if it works well or not.

and this comes in light almond.

I ordered this one (http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-5618-2T-Illuminated-Single-Pole-Residential/dp/B003AVLTKQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1328068357&sr=1-1) and the light is too dim to be really useful. The room has to be dark for you to see the light. I think I'll try the one Brian pointed to above.

Brian, have you tried that one yet?

Mike - it came today, and I'll install in the daylight tomorrow (when I can turn the circuit off). I'll let you know.

I installed the switch. It is a bit better than the other lighted switch, but I still wish it was brighter. I'll let you judge for yourself though. I took the first two photos with the bathroom light on (one of those ugly 3 round bare light bulb thing).

Switch Off:
222490

Switch On:
222492

Light off (just dim daylight), switch on:
222491

I noticed on Amazon and Leviton's website, that there is a 3-way switch as well, if that is needed.

Thanks, Brian. That one appears to be about the same brightness as the ones I have, but with the red lens added. I'll probably stick with the ones I have. At least at night I'll be able to see that the switch is on.

I appreciate you posting the pictures.
