Hey all,

Looking for some advice/thoughts...

I'm working on a couple of pepper and salt mills and was wondering if there's really any benefit to using the beall system on them? I've done them with and without buffing (tripoli, white diamond, carnuba) but I'm not sure I notice any benefit.

So I'm wondering if anyone can offer some thoughts...to buff, or not to buff??

I'm using deft gloss spray lacquer (5 or so coats) as the finish.

Thanks!!!

Jeff

I find most of my finishes benefit from buffing. I generally just use the tripoli then apply ren wax by hand for most things. I suppose the best way to proceed would be to buff one and see if you think it's worth the extra step.

When I have used deft spray lacquer, some spots come out better than others. Buffing definitely helps on those less than perfect areas. I often have plenty of them.

IMHO, the biggest benefit of buffing is in how the piece feels in the hands after. For a peppermill, I'd think one would really appreciate the tactile improvement.
