This one has a number of colors layered into the fiddle. First was a blue, then a red and last a yellow. Altogether they made green, blue, yellow, brown, and near black. The photo doesn't show it well but the depth of the fiddle appears over a 1/4" deep. The combination of colors give it the look of a stand of trees in a deep forest. I'm not happy with the shape or the rim though. There are two beads on the rim. The bowl is about 6 1/2" across and 1 1/2" deep and somewhere around 3/16" thick. 5 coats of cat lacquer.

The dye job on this is amazing, I have to give this a try someday when I get the right piece of wood.

I like the green, but the red is still my favorite. I don't think the shape is too bad either, but the form and beading on the other 2 is hard to beat.

I think it looks great Bob! All the different colors really enhanced all that curl! Great looking bowl!

It looks like really long blades of grass to me. Even though I'm not big on dyed pieces, this one looks cool!

Bob, this is really an interesting result with the dye - very complex, and on a flat platter or shallow bowl, I think it would do better. The form on this one doesn't do much for me. Excellent execution, as is always the case with your work. You sure do have some nice maple stocked up! This piece may be the best of the three for figure, with the red one a close second.

All of the fiddled maple are from my local Rocklar store. For the money the triple "A" grade are a great buy. With a 20% off coupon, it gets even better. It is bone dry and easy to turn. I am now working on doing the sanding back on the lathe rather than hand sanding the dye back. As I said I don't care for the shape, but the depth of the figure really catches the eye. Thanks for the kind words and planting the seeds to try it

I didn't even notice the rim on this one Bob. I just get lost in the curl and the color!

All of a suddent the words "Oh WOW" just came out of my mouth when I saw the pictures. I personally like a thin, simple rim. I think the form is flattering and your dye job is out of this world. Well done.
