The only thing that made quitting drinking at the age of 22 manageable was the whole one day at a time thing. It really works. so I worry about today. And pray I won't drink tomorrow. I figure if I can do that for the rest of my life, I'm golden.

Congratulations, I know it can be a difficult day to day struggle.

I am still day to day on cigarettes. I will go months and then my neighbor will offer me one...

I'm a guy with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I've been told
The kind of guy that wouldn't harm a flea.

But if me and a certain character met
The man who invented the cigarette
I'd murder that son of a gun in the first degree...

Congratulations! I'm working on 26 years myself. It was easy for me, the doctor said: "Quit drinking or die!".

This has got to be one of the most inspirational threads in SMC history!

Congratulations to all the people who have chosen this road....For some it was easy & others not so easy. I'm working on 24 years. I wish I could say that all 23 were easy but I can't.... The more time you have the easier it gets....Yes.... it's one day at a time.

Well Done!

I'm coming up on one year. I'm lucky I caught it really early, because other than the first month it's been fairly easy.

It helps to remember all the good stuff in life you can enjoy with all the extra money, time and calories.

Keep it up guys!

Thanks for all the kind and inspiring words, folks. I was only 22 when I quit drinking, so it has been an interesting ride. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Life is indeed good, one day at a time.

Tex Williams, actually, written by Merle Travis. It's one of the songs I do when we're all getting silly.

Congrats!!
I quit in 1988
There's been several "rough" times in my life that I thought about starting again, but refrained.

I have survived a divorce, the death of both of my parents and being the father of a special needs child, and stayed sober. I was sorely tempted...."But for the grace of God go I."
Again, I really appreciate all the kind and encouraging words.
