Out pear tree,
135 X 135mm
Danish oil on the natural portion, nothing on the turned part (I'm afraid that it becomes dark )
I knew that there were cracks, I did with ...
The idea came while watching the rim around the rotten branch . Hollowing not easy because the
opening was not running true

I wish you good turnings,

You're right about some darkening with oil. However, you'll be surprised with using the Danish Oil because it will bring out a lot a red colors to the wood.

Lionel, I love the rustic nature of this one! Nice work, and I think an oil finish would work nicely.

Very clever. Might make a nice honey pot. I like it.

Nice job of not damaging the branch collar. Was the wood dry? If not, I'd worry about the cracks getting worse, since the thickness can't be uniform at the "shoulders."

Very unique idea. It works well and a nice job capturing the top in proportion to the base portion. Very nicely done. I would just seal the base and sand with 0000 steel wool and leave it alone if it were mine.

How are you planning to deal with the cracks?

What a fantastic job of taking advantage of the hole! I'm amazed it'ss still in one piece, after looking at those cracks! Well done.

Let it crack, it will still look very cool!

Boy, I love that you left the top and hole natural. Really turned out beautiful.

Great work Lionel! It reminded me of a form that Graeme Priddle turns.
