Hello,New here and enjoy the forum. I was wondering where most people keep their lasers. In a shop, attached garage, extra bedroom, retail business space, basement, etc...Thanks!

Before we get 50 replies... wherever you put it, make sure it's climate controlled. After that, it's wherever is most convenient to you (which includes electrical, exhaust, and working room).

I thought I was the only crazy one, it's funny when people come over and see this sitting in my living room.

I have thought about (for tax reasons) bringing one of my spare lasers home and setting it up in the living room but the main reason I don't is because I don't want a computer at home (spend enough time on it at work).

Also if it was at home it would nice for those times that I come up with an idea at odd hours of the night or on weekends I wouldn't have to run into work to try it out.

Keep in mind that you need to stay close by when lasering certain substrates because of fire hazard. We have ours in our shop area close by where I can work on so many other things while its running. The shop area is around 2500 square foot with a partial wall between the showroom. Where ever you put it, keep in mind there will be times you will need to sit there and babysit it if it's where it can't be easily seen. I vented mine with 4 inch pvc sewer pipe with the exhaust blower mounted behind the store pulling fumes out. That way you cannot hear the blower from inside.

Out of curiosity, why is the climate control needed? Are there issues with humidity or is it just for a constant temp in the room?
And, what is everyone using for their climate control?

Thanks!

Condensation is definitely an issue, but rapid swings in temp can also lead you down a path of failing electronics, leaking seals, etc.

I keep mine in the basement, enjoy the consistent temperature. I have the exhaust ductwork running into my crawl space and out the side of the house. Works good for me. I also like that my wood stays dry and moisture content is not an issue.

I've got mine in my cabin in the garden. The cabin is heavily insulated but it still gets bloody cold in the winter. I have a gas heater (with the proper type of flue of course) but most of the time the heat goes up ....and stays there :(

Most laser manufacturers will tell you the warranty is void if engraver is exposed to extreme temps. (32 degrees on the low end and 90 degrees on the high end.)

I keep mine at the Sign/Trophy Shop which is climate controlled, about 69 in the winter and 76 in the summer.
