Everyone,

I am looking to buy a DJ20. I have checked out Amazon and a couple of other sources and all I can find is the new X5, it is about $500-600 more than the older style DJ20. Does anyone know of a source for a Non-X5 DJ20?

I would really like to get this bad boy jointer, but I don't know if I can swing the extra cash for the X5.

Jeff,
Check out Woodworker's Supply (www.woodworker.com). Here is the link for the non X5 DJ-20.

http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=37-350A

However, I think that in my latest catalog from them that it was only listed for $1,399 with free shipping, about $50 cheaper than their website. I have ordered from them before, and they are good to honor their catalog prices. I can try and send you the catalog part number tonight if you would like.

Jeff,

Amazon's got it (I've been eyeballing it myself:cool: ):

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00002238I/qid=1111078694/br=1-8/ref=br_lf_hi_8//102-7647185-3818566?v=glance&s=hi&n=228284

Hard to pass up the $25 off through 3/28, plus free shipping and no tax.

Jeff,
I also found this website

They have DJ-20 for only $1,299, but freight rates apply.

Jeff,
Delta has more than one 8" jointer. I have seen them side by side....try to get the DJ 20, you don't need the X5.IMHO....the one shown though does not compare

Jeff, go to the deltawoodworking.com site and read about the 2 jointers. There is a difference and the DJ20 is worth the extra money.

Oh, by the way I have a DJ20 and it's great, have had it for about 10 years now.

Jeff,
According to the model number at Amazon cross-referenced with Delta, it is indeed the beast you seek:

Hope that hekps,

If the picture on Amazon is accurate - that's not a DJ20. I know because I have one (that I'm selling - too bad you're not on the east coast). The extra bed length is absolutely worth the mney. I also would want to know if the "professional" model had the parallelogram style raise and lower.

Rob,

If you are selling it, let me know the price, I may be interested in paying shipping :)

Thanks!

The model number on Amazon 35-380 the model number of the DJ20 is 35-350 so they are indeed different machines. If they were the same it would already be on it's way! :)

Jeff,
My mistake, I had a couple of tabs in Firefox w/ jointers and mistakenly compared the wrong model.
Sorry 'bout that!

Jeff, Amazon does sell the non X5 DJ20, model 350. Its currently unavailable though. I have a buddy that bought one about a month ago from Amazon. When he first checked it was unavailable. He called them and they said they had more comming. Sure enough a week later they were back in stock. You might want to call Toolcrib.

We couldn't find a difference between the DJ20 (350) and the X5 DJ20 (365X). They even share the same manual. The warranty on the X5 is longer of course. One thing we noticed was that when we setup the model 350 it's motor was made in China.

Redmond and Son have factory reconditioned DJ20's for $1305. Probably only a good deal if you can pick it up, since it's not free shipping.

I have a DJ20, and it's a great machine. But if I was doing it again, I would seriously look at the new Powermatic parallelogram jointer (Model 1610079). It's just a little more money, but it looks like it is a step up from the DJ20.

I just got a non X5 DJ20 from amazon last week. They had 8 the week before. When I placed my order there were 4. Two days later they were gone. Hopefully you can get one by checking back each day. I was at a local Woodcraft looking at the Unisaws this week. I asked about the nonX5 availability and was told that both are still produced and that both are still available. I'm not convinced that this is correct though.

I don't like Delta's marketing strategy around the X5 stuff. (raise the price and offer rebates/incentives) I sorta harbor bad feelings toward Delta over this issue. If there aren't any non X5 saws available when I go to upgrade my table saw, I may just jump off of the Delta wagon.

I think Delta's quality has gone downhill over the last few years as they are trying to compete with the imports. I hope Dewalt can turn things around for them.

You might want to take a look at an Oasis jointer. I suspect that this jointer was made on the same factory line as my DJ20. It just forked into the white paint line while mine forked into the gray paint line. I came close to getting an Oasis but changed my mind at the last moment. Probably a bad decision on my part.

Frankie,

I wish someone would be able to say for sure that they are the same machine just different paint. $700 is a lot different than $1600 :) However if they are $900 I would be suprised if one is not cheaper than the other.

Thanks for the info! Jeff

Check your local dealers - I found that one of mine here apparently still has some non-X5 jointers. I plan on swinging by there in the next week or so to check them out as its a tool (ok - toy) store that I haven't checked out yet.

Unfortunately my budget probably won't allow for the DJ20 or Powermatic parrallelogram jointer. Just a "normal" 8" jointer. Those don't appear on Ebay or the want adds that often and seem to go for 75%+ of new price.

Or - the twin cities are only about a 5 hour drive from you....

Thanks for welcoming me.

I was just at Thomas Tool today to look at (drool, fondle, etc) jointers. They didn't have any 8" on the floor but they do carry General. $1250 for the 80-200-M1 (if I remember correctly) and they'll drop it off at my house.

Maybe next week I'll take a long lunch to go to 7 Corners.

Someone sent me a post that the Oasis jointer has the same parts list as
the DJ 20. Delta's jointers are made in Taiwan or China, as I was told by the
Delta salesman. When I checked out the purchase, the Oasis was very
reasonable but the freight was not. Buy it if you can pick it up. Jim
