Just a simple bowl from some fairly plain wood, it is 10" wide X 3-1/2" tall. Comments and critiques welcome.

I like that gum, for me, it's just plain nice looking. You did a great job with the feet, something I've been wanting to try out. What's your finish?

Well then, it seems I like "simple" and "plain". Very nice.

I like the feet and the wood (have seen much plainer wood), but I'm not of fan of prominent "defects" on the rim of a bowl, so I would have turned it down past the big dark crack in the knot or whatever that is. I realize that, here on the Creek, I'm probably in the minority in that view. :)

I like it Dennis. The shape and the feet both. Is black gum the same gum that is all over East Tx and drops the little pointy balls we used to throw at each other as a kid?

Nice! I love the feet. Personally, I would have attempted more definition on the rim bead. But I'm picking nits. I think it's beautiful.

The lip accent is a little too subtle for my tastes, but other than that I like it.

The "little pointy balls" come from Sweet Gum which is a very common tree. Black gum trees are not as common, they produce a small fruit (~3/8" dia). The easiest way to identify black gum tree is when its leaves turn red (most other trees will still be green at the time).

Steve: the finish is lacquer.

You have not turned much Mesquite, have you LOL.

That stuff is basically lots of defects with some good wood in the middle.

I like the lip, it is a delicate addition.
Did the tenon of feet go through to the inside, or were they just surface applied?

Larry, the feet were carved from what would have been a tall base.

I like it! Everything works well together - the feet, the slanted rim, the grain, defects and color! Nice work Dennis!

I like it, Dennis! The rim and feet are nice ways to spruce up to bowl!

The feet are great! I gotta remember those. I think I've seen some like that on some ancient pottery. Very cool.

Great looking bowl. I like everything about it. Did you carve in the feet? I saw where someone mention tenons but my assumption was carved.
