This HF is about 9" wide x 6" tall. It has a natural edge opening with an interesting shape. The finish is lacquer (not buffed out yet). The thickness is just under 1/4" so it is pretty light. Comments and critiques welcome.

The only thing I'd do is knock down the finish a bit. Great form...no flat spots and a nice lift...size is really nice and the wood is one of a kind!

What a great piece of wood! You did really well using that natural opening like that, gives it such a unique look and shape. I love the look of this thing!

I really like that opening, very organic. The wood and form are great too, but the opening really makes it.

Very nice. It looks like you just peeled the top back to make the opening.

Now that's a unique piece. Congratulations on seeing that form inside the log that chose you for it. I would love to have seen the blank. Your finish looks great and after it cures and you rub it out it will probably look a foot deep. I'm a big fan of lacquer finishes.

I agree with Robert. Looks like a pried open vessel. Unique.

Excellent! Especially like the way the heartwood "cradles" the sap.

Dennis,

Well done. You really made good use of unique piece of wood, and quite a conversation piece. I bet it looks even better when you hold it .
