Has anyone laser engraved a Kindle Fire? I had a customer ask me to do it. The back of them is unusual...it's not metal or a hard plastic. Can it be done, if so what settings should I use?

The material is like a hard rubber. I've done 2. Use the same setting as as you would flexi brass i have a 25 watt and use 80% feed 80% power. 2 passes. Should do it. By-product is dust. No melting

You can almost never go wrong with sneaking up on power - start at 100% speed and 10% power and see what happens, increase power and try again. With 45 watts you will probably have a good mark by the time you hit 50%.

Dennis, I did a bunch several weeks ago. I used 18% Power 100% Speed 500ppi on my 50 watt.
They turned out really nice with a high contrast. I did have one issue. The engraved areas distorted if touched right after engraving. I let the Kindles sit out for about 2 hours before handling the engraved areas. It was like the rubber was kinda melted and needed to dry.

I know the web address is off center a little bit, but the customer wanted it like that.

Haven't done too many Fires yet but the engravings on the Kindle Keyboard would rub off over time if left that white. I do them deeper now which results in a tan color. Saw someone paint filling one recently that looked really sharp.

If you use too much power, you can always say you put the fire in the kindle fire!:)

On a serious note though, is the kindle fire coating similar to what is on some of the smart phones? I have an Optimus V from LG that is mine and I'm itching to laser it.
