Powermatic 31 Disk / Belt Sander Age?

Powermatic 31 Disk sander Age?

I was wondering if you can tell the age of a Powermatic 31 Disk/Belt sander by the serial number? In checking its number it is: #9831187 would I be right in saying it’s a 1998 by the first two numbers?

That should be a mustard version. I would prefer a 70's era (evergreen) but even the "modern" 31a is a very solid machine. With the most recent price increase they are up to $1500. IMHO the "combo" sanders like this aren't the most useful. I would rather have an edge sander and maybe a speperate disc, but some people love them and if the price was right I would probably pick one up just because.
