I turned this one this morning. It is a piece of cherry crotch. It measures 6 3/4w x 5 1/2h and is 5/8" thick. I managed to finish cutting without any massive catches to sand out. It's sanded to 400 grit and finished with tung oil then canauba wax.

Congrats Jason! Be sure to sign and date it... you will be amazed at the different forms you can create over time!

My inspiration came while polishing a brass bell, nice to know the form is recognizable.

Polishing a brass bell... Is that slang for something?:D

Nicely done on the turning... Much nicer than my first couple of dozen and a few of my more recent attempts as well!:o

I agree with Steve. Keep this one so that you can compare it to your future turnings.

Well done Jason, no going back now! What did you say you were polishing?:D

That is a tough form for your first success. You will find shallow bowls much easier to turn. A depth of 3" and 7 to 8" across are the best to work successfully. Keep them coming and congrats on your first.

Good job! At some point you'll realize you hadn't had a catch in a long time and the fear of cathes disappears. That's when it really bbecomes fun.

Nice work. I am glad to see you challenge yourself with a taller form. Like mentioned above, you will need to sign and date it. Keep this one for yourself and come back to it in 6 months to see your progress.

I was planning to bring it for the newsletter's editors challenge.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
