This is the biggest bowl I've turned. It is 13"x5". I used my new Doctor Walnut Oil finishes and love them. The I used his "Walnut Oil Finish" sanding lubricant inside and out, burnished it, then used his "Walnut Oil and Carnuba" finish on the outside. The first thing I notice was the lack of a solvent smell. I also thought I would include a pic of my photo set-up. The second picture was not manipulated in any way other than cropping. Thanks for looking

That's a great looking bowl, Nate! I love the heartwood color in this piece, and the inward sloping rim is a nice touch. I'm guessing the Doctor's walnut oil is very similar to the Mahoney product with a better price... I think I'll give it a try when my current bottle starts to run out.

Dr, I don't think there is any magic to pure walnut oil. The way he's suspend the wax in the solution is the unique part, makes a nice soft glow when burnished.

Real nice curve to the bowl Nate. It could look as good and still be as useful many many years from now. Can't get much better than that!

Nate that is a great looking bowl and I like the simple form. I just finished my first bowl with the Doctors walnut oil and I really like it. It dries as good as Mahoney's and is cheaper. I had put 3 coats on and after 2 weeks no oily surface which I like. I also got his walnut oil/paste wax to give it a try.

Nate the walnut oil/wax that you used was it the bottle or the paste wax? If it was the bottle please let us know how you like it. I have always had trouble with carnuba wax spotting and had quit using it. I am like you and like the idea of no solvent smell.

That's a great looking bowl Nate! The inward sloping rim looks good as does the shape (both of which I use alot on my bowls).

Thanks all,

Kathy, you were probably the biggest influence on my rim designs. I love the angled rim whether it be angled in or out.

Bernie, I used the liquid, not past version.
