Here are a couple of bowls I finished this week. One is finished with the Doctors Workshop walnut oil. The ogee shaped one has one coat of Antique oil on it. I didn't figure it would be used as a kitchen item with the knots in it. So it will make a nice nut or candy dish. The first is 9" X 3" and the ogee is 10" X 3". They were sanded to 600 grit using Vince's method and I was extremely pleased how they turned out. I probably won't be doing much turning for a while as my wife lost her second younger sibling in 15 months. He was 57 and her sister 15 months ago at age 58.

Bernie, I am so sorry to hear about your BIL! Two losses that quickly and at such a young age - one just never knows. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

Very nice work on the bowls - I particularly like the first one. How did you like the new finish?

Bernie, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother-in-law, please let you wife know that you are both in my prayers. As to the bowls, I like them very much. The ash is a lot darker than the ash I have turned.

Thanks for the comments. The first one my wife says is her new gravy bowl.

John K. I do like the new walnut oil. I talked with Mike about his walnut oil. He says it has the proteins cooked out. He is professor of Biochemistry and a specialist in Biochemical Toxicology. He said he was concerned with any finish with solvents or a finish which could be toxic so he developed his own. It also dries well without the oily surface.

Also my wife wanted to say thank you to all for your support and prayers. She says I can now see why you are part of this community. I also thank each of you.

Bernie,
Sorry to hear of your loss, there is never a good time. May your family get through this time as best they can. You and your family will be in my thoughts. Like the bowls, did I miss the wood species?

Bernie,

I am sorry for your loss. I lost an 8-year coworker last week at the age of 53. Tragic losses at the point in life where you just (IMHO) begin to understand who you are. I love the ash, it is my favorite wood, and a nice form.

I can't imagine how tough it must be with back to back losses- my condolences go out to you guys.

I tend to like the bowls that curve back in at the top like the first one. Very nice.

Bernie, that first bowl is really spectacular! A very cool shape and a very nice looking piece of Ash that the oil finish looks perfect on.
I am sorry to hear of your families recent losses.

really like the 2nd one Bernie..very rustic looking. It's usually quite shocking when one loses family members so early in their years. My sis passed away at 56. Just does not seem right. My thoughts are with you & yours Bernie. thanks for taking the time to share with us.
