Well i havn't had much time to turn lately as i've been trying to get our rental house back in shape to rent. i did manage to sneek this one in but that's about it. Spalted maple, 3 3/4x 6, 8" to top of finial. Finish is 3 coats shellac, multi coats lacquar. Lacquar is knocked down with steel wool. Will wax and buff later. As always all C&C more than welcome.O BTW let me know if you think it would look better with or with out the finial.
Thanks Steve220445220444220443220442220441

I like it either way. The appearance is different with the straighter sides but the wood is very pretty!

I like it but I think the bottom is a little to big. Finial or not I say both are beautiful .

Pretty wood and good job keeping on the bark! I'm not crazy about the straight sides on this one... Maybe a continuous curve from top to bottom with a foot about 2/3 the size of this one? I'm torn on the finial, but I think it could work either way. Glad you snuck in a little turning time... Rent house restoration doesn't sound like much fun!

Really nice piece Steve. I like the finial on it but would have did as David explained with a smaller foot.

Thanks all. The inspiration for the basic shape came from the woodturners catalog front cover.David as far as the rental house, some times i don't think there worth it.Just spent about 5000 to get it back in to shape.
