I really have enjoyed my time here at the Creek. A really great group of polite and helpful folks here. Sure do appreciate all of the info.

I have placed some photos of the first piece that i have completed since i have joined the creek. It is a art deco inspired bowfront reception desk out of Padauk and Maple for a law firm in Kansas City Missouri. It was a fun project and I enjoyed it.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks for looking.

This piece was for the same law firm. It is a kidney shaped executive desk out of figured Bubinga.

Robby,
Really nice work! I am asuming the curved faces are made using veneer and the tops are from solid wood. The quality seems excellent and the finish is great also.

Nice work! Is the top of the reception desk a torsion box construction? Is the inlay maple, or holly?

Thanks for all of the positive feedback fella's. They clients were very pleased and actually ordered three more pieces which is great.

Mark... You are correct on the construction details.

Alan... You too are correct, the reception desk top is a torsion box. The inlays are maple though not holly.

Thanks again gents for all of the positive comments.

Robby,

How did you end up doing the veneer on the kidney desk? I remember you were thinking of hammer veneering.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragment. It is appreciated. To answer how the veneering was done, i did hammer veneer it and i liked the results.

Thanks again for looking.

You've heard it many times now, but "great job!" You do great work. Welcome to the Creek! I look forward to seeing much more of your work.

Excuse my ignorance, but could you elaborate on "hammer veneering?"

Thanks,

Thanks again everyone for your positive feedback. To answer Mikes question though...

Hammer veneering is a process that utilizes heated hide glue. The process involves rubbing/burnishing the veneer while the glue is still hot. The tool that is used to rub the veneer is called a, you guessed it, a hammer veneer.

I am not the best one though to describe the process though, for that you need to contact Rob Millard he is definetly the authority on the subject. In fact I needed to thank Rob again for all of his time and help in answering my questions. Thanks again Rob. The projects would not have turned out as well with out your help.

Robby,

It was my pleasure to help. You are fully qualified to describe the hammer veneering process, after completing such an involved project.
