I'm working on an odd little project and I'd like to implement something like a vice. Basically a fixed handwheel that moves a threaded rod in and out. The end of the rod opposite the hand wheel would be fixed to a wood piece. My issue is that I don't even know the proper terminology of what I'd like to search for. The product image below from Lee Valley would work well for me, but the scale is wrong. My "handwheel" would be about 2 - 2.5 inches in diameter, and the threaded rod would be 4 inches long at most. Any ideas?

Here is a 2 inch diameter knob that looks like it would work...

Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Try Reid Supply, they have a lot of smaller hardware parts.

Thanks for the replys. Reid Supply is definitely one to bookmark. Ray, the link you provided gave me the part name that I need... "threaded bushing".

I think I know what to do to cobble together a solution. Thanks a bunch.

If you want it to operate like a real vise, (right-tight,left-loose) the screw needs to be left hand. Do a search for wagon vise or tail vise and you will get some ideas.
