Here is a southwest style bowl made from maple walnut and redheart it measures app 10x5 i have it sitting on a 12x12 platter made of the same material. All comments welcome

the platter is eye catching with the differing directionsof the strips. Can't really see the bowl, but the colors are very appealing.

I like both of those. Is the maple shoulder ring segmented or solid? It looks solid. The platter has end grain to long grain glue joints, is that only one ring or do you have a bottom supporting ring?

It is hard to really get a feel for the shape of the vase from the photo, but the platter really stands out. The wood selection is very pleasing to the eye.
I would check out different threads on wood movement before your next project. The vase construction is tempting fate, but the platter will almost certainly come apart at some point, in my opinion.

You're off to a good start in segmenting. Be careful though, dip your toes in the water and you may fall in. It's slippery by the edge.:eek::D Nice job.
