I would like to make a 8" bowl bottom like the attached picture.

I haven't found a design showing measurements / angles .... that info would be very helpful if anyone has suggestions where to look I'd sure appreciate it.

Also, how would you cut it? Table saw with Incra sled? Sliding Miter Saw or high quality miter box saw?

Thanks in advance for any help offered!

We have a couple resident segment experts and I really mean experts!! I'm sure they'll be jumping in for you.

This isn't a tutorial, but to Jim's point... We do have some experts...

I would definitely use the Incra miter 1000se. It is capable of 1/10th degree angle adjustments. I'm actually working on a similar pattern right now.

Hey Bill .... I've followed your posts recently, some of which sparked my new design interests.

Do you have any details that might help me to draw up a (https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&ei=hiAWT6H0NMWHtwfLk6HnCg&ved=0CCIQvwUoAA&q=proportionately&spell=1&biw=1366&bih=570) proportionately correct cutting plan?

Thanks

See attached figure for angles and dimensions. The figure is sized to 10 cm, so you can easily adjust to required final dimensions. If you need other length or angle measurements, just let me know. Have fun.

Hey Bruce ... thanks !! You wouldn't happen to have that done in inches would you? I'm a product of the public school system and it was a looong time ago.

Sure appreciate the effort!

Tim,

Multiply all of the cm measurements by 10 and then you will have percentage values for whatever you want for a final maximum dimension. I would suggest using either metric or decimal inch measurements for this for sufficient accuracy. The angle measurements are unaffected by the final dimensions. You might want to consider a marquetry approach for this design instead of a full thickness segmentation piece. If you go that route, I can send you a high res jpg which you can scale to your desired final dimensions and use for a direct pattern.

Thanks for the specifics Bruce ... I would think a high resolution pic would be very useful, I should think I could dissect it and create pattern pieces.

I'll PM you my email,

Thanks again

if you have a picture, get your protractor out and measure the angles. Use whatever : tablesaw or mitersaw..each has it's adherents. i use an incra sled unit.

Thanks Michelle,

After have the night to digest, it's clearly less complicated than I originally thought. I appreciate your suggestions.

When I make a star, each point is made by using 4 pieces. 2 with a 75 degree x 45 degree angle to get the long side and a 30 degree x 60 degree for the short side. the 4 pieces put together will make one of the long points. You'll notice on my snowflake i used 4 pieces that are cut 30 & 60 degrees with a reverse little slice added for effect. I'll take pictures this week of the making of one.

Hey Bill .... pictures are the way to go, I'll check back here later in the week.

Thanks again for all your help!
