Still practicing away. Decided to try adding in some curves to a natural edge. Didn't really pull it off, but it's a start. Got this one turned thinner, still not quite thin enough though. Crappy photos, low light and the flash just wasn't doing it so I stuck with ambient.

Really a nice looking NE. The curves will come and you have a nice start. I like the thicker bark and rustic look of it.

Looks good to me! I like the shape you've chosen for this one, and the bark edge is over the top!

Very nice! I like the little curve you gave it and the thick bark is just really cool looking.

very cool! I always thought the rugged appearance of persimmon bark made it a pretty tree. Your bowl has sort of a 'snow tire' look(meant in the best way).

That is one sharp natural edge bowl...........I really like the contrast of the dark bark and the yellow tinted wood.........really nice!

Looks nice to me. Every bowl and unique and special in its own way. Just like each of us.

I agree with the bark comments and the small curve at the top is just right for the squat shape of the bowl. I roughed out a bowl the other day with some deep bark, I believe it was some black locust or siberian elm, I was not paying much attention to the wood just the thick bark and how I was going to save it on the NE bowl!

Nice job and keep at it,

Jeff

Nice job for your "practice" run. I, too, like the curve. It's just right. The thick bark is amazing.

I think you got it quite right! That is one to be proud of. I think the bark and shape perfectly compliment each other!

Thanks for all the comments. I really like how this persimmon turns as well. It really just flows off the gouge, even more so than green wood normally does. Very smooth surface left behind. If anyone around NE Arkansas wants to work out a trade for some pieces I'm up for it. I've been wanting some good sized green walnut and cherry to try some NE with those.
