No actual bugs, but I turned this bowl the other day, took some pictures with my 90mm macro lens to see what the wood looks like close up, thought they looked pretty cool, so thought I'd share them. This was the result of my first try at high speed sanding with the angle grinder. First closeup represents about one square inch, the last about half that. Bowl is about 7 x 2 3/4"

Dan, nice bowl, and very impressive pics!! No hint of sanding marks, and I suspect if they were going to show, they would show on locust.

I really like the bowl. It looks substantial, which I prefer. I understand the urge to make thin bowls, but I prefer them solid, even hefty. Makes me think it will last a while.

Love the macro shots of the Black Locust. It is becoming a favorite wood of mine as I use it more. Try putting it under a black-light. It will fluoresce bright green. Cool stuff.

Really nice bowl Dan. I do like your rim on it. I found black locust when dry to be like concrete.

Nice bowl and pictures, Dan. Very courageous of you to show such extreme close ups of your work! That is a good advertisement for your method. My arms still throb when I recall turning dry black locust.
