John's recent discussions about ogee curves started me thinking that it's been a long time since I attemped such a design. This is a cherry bowl for a chapter project, 16" from wing tip to wing tip. Haven't completely hollowed the center to reduce the chances of warping before I can power sand the exterior, and should have it done in about another hour.

Ah, man!!!! I was gonna do an ogee bowl from my chunk of cherry!!!:(:D Guess I'll just have to figure out something else to do!

Nice curves, there, Jamie! Must be nice to have a big ol' Stubby to swing those logs on!

That looks like a beauty. At 16" it must look even better in person. Are you planning to continue the curve as you remove the tenon?

That Stubby is just warming up on 16"s. Nice job turning. With those wings that far out, you have to make some light cuts with a lot of patience. What was the speed of lathe?

Bob, I have been using Studly, my Stubby, for about 10 yrs. now on the lows speed belt/pulley setting only, so the speed was about "medium." I don't use high turning speeds like Jimmy Clewes, because it sounds too scary, and stuff happens too fast!

I sat in one of Jimmy's demos where he was spinning a 4x4 12" long to make one of his boxes. The lathe was at 3400 and some guy was sitting right in the firing line getting showered with chips. I know he is good, but the guy sitting there enjoying the show really put himself in harms way. There is something to say about using discretion when demoing or viewing. At our club workshop now, you come in glasses go on, no glasses no entry
