Today, I received my retirement orders. 1 Dec 12, after what will be 23 years in the Army, I will start the next chapter in my life. A very exciting, and a little scary day. Thought I would share with my friends here on the Creek.

Nate, That is a big day. Take a year off and just turn and store wet rough outs before you start looking for your second career. Thanks for looking after us for so long.

Thank you all so very much. Without support from wonderful people like you we would not be able to do what we do. A special thank you to my fellow vets who set a high example for me to follow.

Doc, maybe a nice fu man chu mustache. My hair fled the scene years ago.

December 1st .. you are going to need a big "FIGMO" Chart to get you though this year. This Feburary 1st will be the 33rd anniversity since my USAF retirement --- seem like yesterday.

I don't know if I should offer congratulations or condolences...
I retired back in August & so far it hasn't been any fun :(.

I thought it would be like a long vacation - but - it's more like I did or said something inappropriate @ work and got sent home w/out pay. :D

Congradulations on your service and pending retirement. I did the same three years ago. One day you wake up in the Army and just say to yourself that it is time to put the boots in the back of the closet. One of the most important things you can do for yourself right now is to get yourself a mentor to get you through the retirement process. Preferably someone that is recently retired and can help you with the in-and-outs of the system. It is a huge transition and in some ways tougher than coming into the service. Best of luck and if you need some tips that I learned, send me a PM.

Thanks for your service Nate. I retired from the navy in Oct. of 85 after 21 years. The mentor idea is a good one.

Thanks for your service, and congratulations on your retirement. Just a bit of advice from the female side, be patient and ease Joy into the retirement. It can be tough to go from being self reliant and independent to having a man just lollygagging about the house all day. :D In all seriousness, it can be a difficult transition, especially if Joy is accustomed to being at home and having her own routine. If she works outside of the home it may be a little easier. Let the countdown begin!

Great to be a short timer isn't it? I remember when my enlistment was up and was so glad to go home. I didn't spend quite as much time in as you did(7 years).
Good luck in the future and a thanks for your service.
