Three years ago (the years fly  ) I presented on this forum a "manta ray bowl".
... I always thought of this. A year ago, I started this piece, worked on and of.
Here it comes.
Now to talk about turning:
It's cherry 20 x 12.5 cm, the mouth was slightly affected by worms and as I don't
see well with what sort of texturing hide it, I turn a small collar in boxwood
While working, a crack developped and I decide work with it...thus the butterfly bow (double
swallowtail in african ebony)
For the "legs" I borrowed those of John Pirson (the legs of the objects he turns eh!
not his)
Well, well ... I think I said everything, nothing is stuck, it's modulable
Not very pleased with the legs
Your comments welcome (all), friendly

I like it and will use at least a couple of the features as inspiration for future work. The butterfly inset looks fantastic with its raised surface and carving (I would have called it a bow tie). The collar is great also and works perfectly with the dark inset. The multi-axis legs are well done; but I don't think they fit in well with the rest of this piece.

Beautiful work Lionel. Reminds me a little of Spy-vs-Spy from Mad Magazine.

Too cool! At first, I thought a few 'buttons' of ebony might be in order, but after considering it, I like the understated look that you already have.

On the legs, what if you removed one of them and allowed the point 'at the bottom of the shirt' to serve as the third leg... Just a thought.

Hi all,
thanks for your comments.
Yes Denis, I think too, the three feet are a test, in the sequel I think to something like angled bird legs (as thin as possible)
we'll see ...
