Well, yesterday while running our brush route we ran upon another load of Box Elder laying next to the road for pick up. I know I said I wasn't bringing any more wood home but I could not pass it up. It took 2 loads to get it home. It was dark so no pics of the load but here is a picture of 1 piece after it was cut up and sealed. I hope to get to working more of it up over the weekend. I think I'm gonna need another shop for wood storage. You gotta love the great colors.

Geez Donny.........you hit the mother load this time! Great flame in that box elder............if I was close, I would see you about taking a couple of those blocks off your hands since you have so much wood...........that is pretty stuff!

There is some serious color in that wood. Looking forward to some finished items.

If you need extra shop space to store it, lemme know. I can't guarantee it's safety though ;)

Beautiful wood.

Nice haul, Donny. If only that color would remain - sadly, I suspect in time it will all fade.

John,

Is this from experience or do you know the specific process that takes place to cause it to fade?

UV rich light exposure will fade it fairly quickly because it's an organic material, not a color pigment. It will last a long time if not exposed to light, and there is no proven finish that will eliminate the fading.

Nothing to be sorry about Donny - a great gloat no matter how you look at it! If you need to "store" some of that in my shop, let me know! ;^}

That's just beautiful wood. Question - I'm in central VA. Does that stuff grow around here?
