I've heard turners say the wood speaks to them. The big guns in WW2 cost me a little bit of my hearing so maybe I just can't hear wood talking. I did hear this one though. It said I can stand on my own. Don't you dare install a collar or give me a finial. I listened....

This one was turned and sold several years ago. I do remember that I had a small log of this wood that netted several similar pieces. Wish I had more like it. Size is about 7 or 8 inches wide. Comments are welcome.

I have to say that is a beautiful piece. Spalted maple burl is nice. I watch E-Bay all the time about spalted maple. I don't buy it but I like to see what it goes for since its so beautiful. A piece on the 3rd that measured 5"x5"x11" long went for $97.51. Spalted maple is highly sought after and you have a top of the line piece. Thanks for sharing.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Wonderful form on some beautiful wood. I am so glad you didn't do a collar and finial on this piece.

Beautiful piece! One of my most prized turnings is a small bowl turned out of spalted (punky) birch ... wouldn't part with it for the world.

That is a piece of wood to drool over, and you did a wonderful job of "listening" to the wood.

That's a beauty Wally and you're right about that being some spectacular wood. You've been turning so many nice things for so many years it would be interesting to see some kind of a chronological slideshow of your work over the years.
