I made this one this morning and it's wrapped in an "unknown" yellow wood. It came from the branch under the pen. The yellow is a deep yellow color and I find this stuff at work. It doesn't get big enough for nothing but pens or something small. It is nice looking wood though. C&C welcome.

I have no idea what kind of wood that is but it sure looks cool! Nice work on the pen Donny!

It's nice, Donny! I've turned a little soapberry that has a nice, pale yellow color... I remember it smelling a bit like popcorn when I turned it. Mulberry, osage, redbud, and agarita are the only other yellow domestics that come to mind, but it doesn't look like any of those.

I have a couple of pieces of Mahonia that look quite a bit like that. Did it have holly like leaves? Beautiful pen by the way.

Yes, It's got pointed leaves like holly and are very sharp.

Quite likely is a mahonia species then. The common name is barberry.

I just looked it up and I think your right. That's what it looks like. It's very yellow on the inside. The name is a "Mahonia Bealei". Thanks.
