This piece is just over 11 inches tall overall. The pedestal and finial are Holly, I decided to leave them white for a change. The elm grain was left unfilled for contrast with the smooth Holly.
Comments and critiques are welcome.

Beautiful! If I had to pick at nits, the foot seems a little plain for such a fantastic form... Had to get out my microscope to even find that nit! Great stuff!

Very nice, I really like the simple clean lines on the pedestal and finial, they really let the HF take the show, and well that it should!

Dennis, great to see someone else do some natural holly "sticks!" Excellent choice for some good contrast in color, figure and finish. Love the burl, too - a rare find.

I noticed you edited your thread for critique and comment. While many of us might do some things differently, the reality is you have done some good work here.

The only comment I would make overall is that the form (very good, BTW) is fairly massive in proportion to the balanced weight/mass of the pedestal and finial - in other words, the visual mass of the finial is in close proximity to the form as is the visual mass of the pedestal. The taper upward seems to add to that.

I wonder if "moving" some of that out away from the form might give a different perspective of this piece. Keller's comment is part of that, I think, and were the base of the pedestal somewhat more complex, and perhaps a bit heavier visually (and, perhaps the bead being a bit larger) I think it would change the perspective. Moving the mass of the finial from the form a bit might provide some additional interest.

Notwithstanding my personal taste as noted, this is a great piece! You should be proud of it.

Super piece and Dennis's work is always rediculously thin. ----------old forester
