I am investigating the feasibility of engraving family trees on metal, using either rotary or laser equipment.

I don't own or have access to any engravers yet, I'm trying to figure out what to get.

I'm proposing to engrave on plaques (brass, copper, anodized aluminum, steel). Size will range from 3" x 6", to 12" x 24" (approx.). Rotary engraving will be used for metals that are not suitable for laser.

A typical job will contain 200 to 400 letters, up to 20 m. (60 ft.) linear length of engraving path.

You can download files for a sample job from here:
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.dxf (600 KB)
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.eps (300 KB)
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.svg (240 KB)
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.hpg (200 KB)
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.cgm (235 KB)
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.cnc (300 KB) G-code
-www.findyourfamilytree.com/upload/pierre.pdf (0.1 KB)

Other formats can be generated if your equipment doesn't read these formats.

I would be interested in time & cost estimates for doing the engraving, exclusive of materials or shipping.

If anyone would like to do their own family in the style above, just download a free genealogy program, enter as much of your family history as you like, and send me a GEDCOM export. I'll return a free file that you can engrave from.
