Ringing in the New Year Alone

Anyone else enjoy being alone on New Year's Eve? Several friends have invited me to join in the festivities downtown and think I'm crazy to stay home. I like to spend the last hours of the year to reflect on events of the year and decide how I want to improve myself in the coming year. It's also when I like to start a new journal, which I won't maintain past the second or third week of January, but maybe that's something I'll change this year. :)

We'll be staying home tonight, Just Charlotte, me, and the little dog. Too many crazys out there. We'll be enjoying the new patio I hope to finish today.

Have not went out for several years, the last time we went out for dinner on new years eve the local "nice" restaurant doubled the prices for new years eve, we promptly got up and left.

It has been quite a few years since we have gone out on New Year's Eve. If we do decide to go out some year it will be at a hotel or casino where we can rent a room so we don't have to drive home in the risky traffic. Several years we have gone to bed prior to midnight but the fireworks usually wake us up when they are fired.

I generally spend midnight on new years eve alone, usually because I have passed out by then... We always have parties at our house and I wake up to find about 20 people sleeping in every corner of our home, tonight the party is a little smaller maybe 15 instead of the 50 or so usually. Hardly anyone drive from our parties, if they are from out of the neighborhood they stay over if they are from the neighborhood they stumble home on the boardwalk, we have yet to have anyone fall in the water... For us it is just an excuse to have lots of family and friends over, it wouldn't bother me a bit to be alone tonight as long as we had a party next week!!! Actually I need to go, 2PM is my official "mix a drink" time for party days, except this year I am drinking St Sabastian Dark, taste just like Coca Cola, a friend gifted me a case for X-mas!!


PS Belinda it may not be St Patty's day but downtown Savannah is always worth the trip. You can always stay home next week. Just my perspective.

We aren't going anywhere. We've got a bottle of champagne and a bottle of sparkling grape juice in the fridge and plan to watch TV and play Wii. We aren't even planning to go out at all today AFAIK which is unusual for us on a Saturday--usually its errands day.

Candy an I like to go out to dinner in New Years Eve. For us it is an anniversary celebration. We were married on New Years Day 30 years ago.

Sometimes we stay home to avoid the crazies. Most places we would want to have a meal are closed on New Years Day.

This year she is in California tending to her parents.

I will be home alone with just the chickens, the geese and the cats to keep me company.

However, on New Years Day I will be driving up to Seattle to see my son before he flies off to Korea for his Air Force assignment.

Chateaubriand, a glass of good Belgian beer, some tunes, and hopefully asleep by 10. Why would I go out? A nice meal by myself in a quiet house, vs. sloppy drunks and noise. Pretty simple choice.

I'll be staying home alone. Will be quiet, maybe. I'll be taking down Christmas decorations before my grandson is back to visit. I'll tell him Santa had to take them back to the North pole :)

Lorena and I (and our 2 pooches and the 2 we are dog-sitting) will be watching Netfilx. We just discovered the MI-5 series and can't keep our eye off of it.

Phyllis and I are heading out to the kids place - (15 minutes away!) and spend the evening with the grand-kids. Sometime we make it to midnight, sometimes we don't!

Out tradition is a fondue evening meal, and then a chocolate fountain fondue for desert! Not sure if it is a good way to finish the old year, or start a new year, but it seems to work.

Normally I stay in for a couple of drinks with my wife. But this year we are about to go out and party until about 4 in the morning - with the kids! I have spent the holidays with my wife's family in Peru. They have quite a different tradition for both Christmas and New Year's. At Christmas the party starts at 9 PM with the entire city (Lima) setting off fireworks at midnight - it is quite impressive - with presents opened immediately afterwords. I think the same is about to happen tonight - just with no presents, more food, more drinks and longer hours. I think it will be fun.

One year I actually did the Peruvian Christmas in Connecticut and then had to do the American version with my parents the next day. What a doosy!

The wife, dog, and I stayed in for a quiet evening as well. As usual, I was wide awake and gently nudging my wife to stay awake for the clock to strike midnight. I'm the night owl, always have been, and she's lucky to be awake past 10pm most nights. While we enjoy family get togethers (pool parties, cookouts, and her aunt does have a Christmas eve party every year, etc), neither of us are "partiers", nor are we fond of the bar scene.

i can count on one hand the number of times i went out on NYE in the past 30 years.
i just prefer to stay home and out of trouble. way to many idiots out there

and i always hate thinking of how many people will die tonight and how many
others will have there lives changed forever because somebody thought they
were sober enough to drive.

Happy New Year! It turns out I was not alone after all. A rather rowdy crew had a party on the community dock. Apparently nothing assists the travel of sound waves like a marsh full of water. At 1:40 a.m. I was very privileged to hear the approximately 15 drunk person band performing "You don't have to call me Darlin, Darlin", followed by the ever popular Hank song "Family Tradition". At 3:00 I had the option to join them, or call the police. As I was already tucked in in my jam jams, I opted for the police. I hate to be a party pooper but apparently I yam what I yam. Maybe my resolution this year should be to be more tolerant . . . nah, I'll break that one before the month is out. Think I'll just start looking for a new place to live.
