My Jobsite tablesaw bit the dust a week ago and I am looking for recommendations for a new machine. I looked at the Dewalt 745 and I like it but still want to here some recommendations. Also does anyone know of a saw that uses a 7" or 8" blade? I was thinking the other day I never needed my saw to cut anything thicker than 1.5". I do not need a 10" blade, I am hauling around a machine that is too big for what I need. I would much rather have a smaller, lighter, more compact saw.

I have had this Bosch for six months or so and love it. It does take a 10" blade. May work with a smaller blade. $366.99

I have used the Ryobi on the job for several years, and a coulple of different ones at that. The kit with the stand is pretty decent for what it is. I have used the dewalt as well, again considering what it is it was ok. If I was to do just "Hit and Run" jobs the smaller saws would probably be my choice. If I was to be somewhere doing alot of cutting for any length of time I would most likely rather have at least a contractors saw. Harder to drag around-yes, but cutting alot on those little screamers is not for me. Although the Bosch with the stand looks worthy of a glance. I guess it's what fits your needs, although if you don't buy one with a stand you then need a rip of plywood and a dedicated set of horses to set the saw on (unless you cut on the floor I suppose). I would certianly look for something with a little heft to it or the vibration cause you to have double vision.

I have used the dewalt when I work for a hardwood flooring company and it seems to be a really good little saw. I would take a good look at the Ridgid compact table saw for $70 less then the dewalt and $100 less than the Bosch and the Ridgid comes with the lifetime service agreement. As far as table saws with smaller blades I can't think of one other than the old delta homecraft saw I had with a 9" blade but it was cast iron so it would not save any weight.

I have used the Bosch 4100, and the DeWalt 744, and like both of them.

I have seen saws that are limited to 8" blades, but they were older and are probably underpowered by today's standards. Even if you find one, how much will you really save in weight and size? I would stick with a 10" saw.

Bosch if you want the best, Rigid if you want the best value. The Dewalt is nice too, I really like the fence, but would pick the Bosch over it.
