I need to replicate some very old doors - circa 1890. The raised panels are about 5/8 in their center and have a 1/4 inch edge. The taper form the high center to the finished edge is about 1 1/4 inches wide with a 1 or 2 degree slope. Can't seem to find anything on the web that is less than 15 degrees.

Anyone know of such a bit?

Thanks for any leads.

Here's an alternative you might try--tip your table saw blade a couple degrees, make a jig to slide along your fence to clamp the boards to, and fire away. The boards would be standing on their edges as they go thru the saw.

You can do a Goole search for Router bits and see what comes up. You may find some manufacturer off the beaten path that may make something. Sommerfield tools comes to mind as a lesser known supplier.

I can't be positive, but seems like I read some place about at least one company that produced custom profile cutters for shapers. Might be an option (and an excuse to go CL diving for a shaper <g>).

Talk to Bobby at Woodworkers Tool Works. He will make exactly what you want if you send him the profile. Not a bad cost, especially if you just need HSS. Dave

Dale, re table saw - Will be trying this if I can't find a bit, have done it in the past. Really, really tedious.

Don, re google. Been there, done that, with all the variations on search terms I could come up with.

Jerome, we don't have a shaper and custom cutters are out of our price range.

David, how is HSS affected by mahogany? Any idea? I've only used carbide.

It may be worth giving Ridge Carbide Tool Co. a call to discuss your needs and see what they have. They make custom router bits but may be able to dig something up that is exactly what you are looking for.

Stephen, that is the perfect bit. Cost about $60., razor sharp and makes perfect cuts each pass. Thanks again for the tip. For some reason I never seem to remember Grizzly except when it's time to drool over their power tool line.

Glad I could help-- I spend a lot of time brousing the Griz while in the "library"!
