Acquaintance has a bunch of these turning accessories he wants to sell me. Anybody give me a ballpark idea what I should offer him?

Super Nova 2 chuck supposedly like new
Sorby and Taylor gouges
The Tormek stuff is gouge sharpening jig, etc. I bought a Tormek from him a week or so ago for about $200.

Anybody give me a clue?217191

The SN2 chuck looks to be an older model, not saying it isn't a good chuck just not a new style. Mine has more defined edges where that one seems to have the edges relieved. I would start low and go from there, you can always go up but not come down. I would start about $150 and see what he says.

For all of what you have there...........assuming you have a tormek to use on the sharpening............the SN2 is just fine, providing all the jaws and parts are there, and the gouges...............you won't do bad at $200 but start lower if you can. The SN2 goes on sale at Woodcraft from time to time for $139.99 and I have seen it twice for $119.00 which was a steal. Normally sells for $189.99

The gouges alone will be worth the extra, providing you can use them.

What are the two really long items in the middle of the photo?

Keller, I think those are boring bars for drilling out lamp bases, etc.

Looks like there is at least $500 worth of stuff there retail. If you got it for half that it would be a good deal.

I would have to agree that there is about $500 retail there so $200 you should be ok.

ask yourself how much of it do you really need or will use,and then value it.

I just don't know where to start, like all tools some of it I need and some I don't right now. He's not a woodturner per se so he's kind of counting on my to place the value. Do you think it's $50, $150, $300??? Just looking for some starting point.

$150 sounds good...if he spits at you, toss a couple Franklins his way. The steal on the Tormek was sweet!

If you bought the Tormek T7 for $200, thats a steal, if it was the T3, it was a good deal.
I would use that as a reference.

Put $180 bucks in your pocket and another 40 bucks in your console of your vehicle. Then you can honstly say all you have on you is 180 bucks. If need be, go dig in the car for more.:D I've got more good deals that way at yard sales.

I would start at $175 and go as high as $250.

While "pricing it out in my head", I came up with $225-250 for a fair deal for both of you (since you know him). If it was someone I didn't know, and didn't "need" it, I'd take it all for $150.

A used SN2 chuck is worth about $75. The gouges are worth $20 and $25. The rest of it is worthless to me. If he wanted to keep the rest he could or he could include the rest for $10. That puts it at $130. That is a fair price for letting someone recover from their mistaken purchases. It is also $130 more than he has right now. If he has other buyers then I would encourage him to work with the other buyers.

Ok, so we ended up doing a little trading for two inexpensive handguns that I had recycled on a previous trade. I'm pretty happy. Got a buttload of jigs and accessories for the Tormek, a couple Sorby and Taylor tools, the Nova chuck and plate attachment, a drill chuck for my lathe, some hollowing tools and some other misc. live chucks, etc.

I don't consider it to be a steal but I'm comfortable and really happy to have all the stuff for the Tormek. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use it! Already can tell that the Nova chuck is far superior to the Wood River one I had just purchased (and promptly returned). There will be some tools I never use but heck, that's what I said when I bought my lathe!

Bare in mind you can buy an SN2, with 2 inch jaws, but sans insert, direct from Teknatool USA, as a refurb, for $99
