I posted this elsewhere and got such a great response I thought I would post here too. This is my first attempt at both raised panels and intarsia. I saw this posted a year ago by a fellow ww'er and bought the plans from here: http://www.cherrytreetoys.com/Noahs-Ark-Toy-Chest-Plan-P2733.aspx I was not really happy with the box included with the plans so searched for an alternative. My box was inspired by a blanket chest that I saw posted. The OP said it took 80 hours but I easily blew by that, spending about 8 hours on the zebra alone! I finished it just in time to give it to my two year old granddaughter for Christmas. I'll try to update it with pictures of Karinna and "papa". Merry Christmas!

WOW! She will treasure that forever! Great job!

How many different woods did you use?

That is beautiful! It is completely over the top for a toy chest, will be cherished for a lifetime.

Thanks Todd. Zebra is wenge and maple. I never used wenge, it is really hard and somewhat brittle. Red is paduk, also used ash, walnut, white oak, redwood, mahogonly, red oak, cherry, and birch. The box is cherry and maple.

I'm sure the little one will be grinning from ear to ear when she gets it...
Nice job Gene.

Great looking chest. Wonderful job on the animals as well as the chest itself. Well Done! It takes a lot of time, but it is all "Grandpa Time" so it's worth every minute.
I also have a 2 year old granddaughter and her gift was certainly this grandpa's big project for the year. I built her a Rocking Horse, and like you, I got it done just in time.

Beautiful work Stu. I wish I had the time years ago to do this type of thing for my kids but as we all know, having time is a grandpa thing. I made a rocking horse last year. Here are a few pics:

That's cool. very unique. Now, I'm thinking about what I'll have to do next year to top it...

What a great job. It looked like you painted the zebra and giraffe and did not cut all of those parts. All I can say is wow.
