Thought I would get the collective expertise here to help me out. I have the opportunity to but this disc/belt sander for $40. Price is because it's currently not functioning. The stand is worth $40 but seeing how the compatible new grizzly goes for $750 I think I have to pick it up.

What does a motor cost to get rewound?

Is the motor built in or can you swap the motor out? From what I have read a rewind is around 350.

For 40 bucks its worth getting it.

Don:

I meant to post a link here it is http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/tls/2766803877.html. The guy told me that the motor is no longer available. $350? Wow. Not sure it's worth $400 to me.

This grizz unit looks exactly the same http://www.grizzly.com/products/Combination-Sander-6-x-48-Belt-12-Disc-3450-RPM/G1183

Take a quick look on ebay to see if you can pick up a dual shafted motor to replace it. If worse comes to worse you can take the parts off for the 12 inch sander and make a new platform for it. Well worth the 40 bucks IMHO. New 12 inch sanders cost 200 plus.

Hard to believe the motor is cooked. You may be able to fix it or at least have a motor shop give it an evaluation.
