Just built this for myself , its 55x55x36. Had the chairs from the former table. Came out very nice, catalyzed varnish for top, then sanded and buffed.

That is a sharp looking table, and I agree on the choice of woods. The finish over the maple looks like glass too - well done!

I may shamelessly copy your design. I've got a kitchen table on my list that I'm going to make from ambrosia maple and walnut. My wife just informed me that the table was going to be square, not round, Your table looks much better than what I had been considering!

Very nice! What was your sanding schedule for the top and what did you buff it with?

Very nice! What was your sanding schedule for the top and what did you buff it with? Not for sure on sanding schedule. I know he used a half sheet sander. Plus the buff was done with wax I believe , maybe by hand. I will see him soon and ask.

Ho Todd, he scraped it with a scraper after each coat to get it smooth, then used 400 grit, on final coat he went 4-6-1000 grit. Then he took turtle wax scratch remover and hand buffed the whole thing. It was new to hom, I have another finisher that uses some sort of air sander thats for bodywork , looks like a half sheet sander, then he uses a car buffer with wax to get it glassy.

Beautiful table indeed ! and has given me some ideas as to one that I need to build. Also of figured Maple.
?? did you consider taking precautions as to the movement of the top. I can see that if the top is "solid" wood that if it swells it will apply preasure against the legs which in turn I believe have the skirt board mortised and tenoned to them, this movement could cause failure of this joint.
