This could be a salad bowl, fruit bowl, popcorn bowl, or even an ice cream bowl for someone who gets really serious about their ice cream. It's a piece of Ambrosia Maple that was part of my prize from "Got Wood" in the WTA B&B contest. I roughed this about 2 months ago, soaked it with Pentacryl and bagged it, then finished it today. It was a 12" x 6" blank and the bowl ended up 11.75" x 5.5" (that's a lot of ice cream). It's sanded to 400 and has grocery store walnut oil for the finish.

Great looking bowl, Curt!! I really like the darker Ambrosia maple - just seems to have more character than the starkly contrasted light maple. Nice feature on the slightly concave rim, too.

Well done!

Pretty piece Curt. There is so much figure in this at first I though it was turned from OSB.

Ice cream? Did someone say Icecream? I think I saw a picture of a good looking bowl that was just right for Ice Cream.

That is a beautiful piece, nicely done. Would make a fine popcorn bowl as well.

It might hold popcorn, but what about the beetle holes? Remember that if a bowl won't hold soup, then it must be an "art" bowl!

Now this is an awesome bowl. the wood is striking ..and wow what a big blank. If I had turned this it would never leave my house.

The character of the wood is so dramatic. Love it. I like that you left it thicker as well.

Very nice large bowl. I love the ambrosia patterns.

Beautiful! That little bead detail and the sloped rim are both nice features.

Just out of curiosity, did you fill the tiny little beetle holes? I've always wondered about using ambrosia for food since those tiny little holes are present in the streaks.

That's a very nice piece of ambrosia Curt and a beautiful bowl. The subtle rim details work nicely, thanks for posting.
