Is the any way to get rid of all the ticks I have arrows pointing to in the free version of sketchup 8?
I have tried every thing I know to do, under Edge Style all I have checked is Edges

Floyd, those ticks you are seeing are called "endpoints" and are part of the style tied to the template you selected to use when you started SketchUp. You can get rid of them for the current drawing by going to Window>Styles, click on the Edit tab. Below those tabs you'll see a row of little cube icons. Click on the left-most icon, a wireframe cube. Untick the box for "Endpoints" and the points will go away. Click on the thumbnail image for the style in the upper left corner of the Styles dialog box. It'll have two circular arrows indicating the style has been changed. Once you click on the thumbnail, the style will be updated.

If you have a scene or scenes established for the model using the style with the endpoints turned on, unticking the endpoints box alone will not be enough to keep the endpoints from showing. You'll have to update the style by clicking on the thumbnail, too.
