The first vessel w/ Glaser Mini tools

This is a piece of Quilted Maple I had on a faceplate from about a year or so ago. I had rough turned its outside but it was solid inside. I had set it aside due to its awful checking. When I got my Glaser Mini tools i had to turn something. I was going to turn some Ironwood but I didn't have time to make a tenon and prep it. So, I grabbed this piece. It's 7-1/2" diameter, 3-3/4" tall, less than an 1/8" thick, the finish is friction polish and it weighs a whopping 4.5 ounces. I must say, the tools really made it easy to turn this thin. They also, to my suprise, made it easy to remove almost all of the checking. I didn't expect them to work so well on getting rid of the tear out. When I was doing the grooves for the black stripes, I was worried I was going to cut it in 2. Fortunately it's still intact. The stripe is done by cutting a groove and using a piece of fine wire to ride the groove and burn the groove. Anyway, please enjoy and sorry for the dirty lense (Black Spot) . I'll be starting some glue ups this weekend to go back to segmenting. More fun to come.

Nice piece. I like the grain as well as the form.I am guessing you are using the Mini QR from Glaser.

First of all - sweet work on the pot!! Undercutting that form with bowl gouges has to be evidence of superior skill, Bill. Great work!

Coming from you, John. That means a lot. Your work is equally incredible. When I was cutting under the side, it was suprisingly easy. That's where I started using one hand. I was able to do very light cuts that way. I'm looking forward to using them on some harder woods. That'll be a real test too.

Thanks Ron. I talked to Paulo and he's going to release smaller sets of the tools. You may want to look into that.
