Let's see...$9,000 divided by 240....WOW only $375 per plane! Somebody needs to jump on this. Where's the roll eyes icon?

It's more like $37.5 per plane.

Oops, missed the decimal point. Next time I'll put my glasses on before checking the calculator.
37.50 per seems a bit more reasonable.
Thanks Igor.

Before I'd worry about a collection like that (unless someone has a lot of space and wants an instant collection), I'd have to identify a handful of planes in it that were worth the asking price. Otherwise, you have a huge issue on your hand if you want to keep half of them - the time that it would take to find buyers for the rest.

It does look like there are a couple of nice plows and a few other interesting wooden planes, but it's hard to tell if they're worth anything from that far away, and there are scads of common bench planes and a lot of near worthless blocks.

Don't think the seller is unreasonable to start there, though, but I don't know why someone would want that many common planes.

Once you got them sharpened - figure three days - you wouldn't have to sharpen a plane again for a long, long time.

Well, at least not until all of them started to corrode.

There are definitely a few planes in there that are desirable. He'd do a lot better listing them individually on ebay. I don't know who in their right mind would pay $9,000 for a lot of standard issue planes.
