The new Jet 1642 EVS is ordered, thank you all for applying enough peer pressure to make me spend money. I appreciate it, the wife not so much:p

Congrats on the order... I see bigger bowls in your future which might help ease the sting for the MRS.

I am looking forward to being able to walk out back, cut a blank and turn it due to the sliding headstock and such. That 12 inch limit on the Delta has cost me a few times. Looking forward to giving it a whirl!

Nice move Ken:D!! I put a 14" block of maple up on Friday and knocked out a bowl in a couple hours. What was the most fun was watching the 1/4" cuts I was taking with a 20 RPM drop:cool:. Today I'm working on some 15" cheese platters from white oak...only thing I could find that was 15":(
My wife helped me set it up after a verbal lashing from Keller.:p My floor is level so I pre set the feet and had 1/128" offset from the head stock to tail stock.:D Now it's time for some real wood and real fun!! Enjoy!!:D

You're not the first one to succumb to the pressure to buy one of those things... I was in hock to the wife for a couple years while I paid that thing off...

Have fun.

Congrats! Just give the Mrs. first choice when you turn a bowl and she'll be happy. Good lathe by the way. As mentioned, you'll love it.

Thanks folks. In all honesty, the wife knows I can turn and sell enough to pay for it so no real worries, i'm pretty sure she is just fond of giving me grief LOL!

Speaking of that cherry, its the main reason for going to a bigger lathe. I cut a few blanks out last week and stopped knowing I should just pull the trigger and didnt want to cut small blanks. I should be heading back in there this week/weekend to hunt & cut. As far as the bears, well, I saw something that was just flat insane. We ran a bear early friday morning and the dogs tree'd it. I was the 1st one in to the tree and was enjoying watching the bear and dogs. It was a bit small for me, however we had a youth hunter there and after an hour, they made it in to the tree. While they were trying to get the kid ready for a shot, the bear decided he had enough of all that and came down the tree. I hollered out and the one feller under the tree threw his hands up to shield himself and when the bear got to his hands (more like when his hands hit that bears behind) the bear swung to his right and jumped off teh tree from about 7 feet up. Ofcourse, my buddy Steve was standing about 6 feet from the tree and teh bear landed square on him! They flipped over a log and it was a whirling sight seeing blaze orange and black fur roll together down the hill! They finally came apart and teh bear took off. Steve was on his hands and knees looking up when a pack of about 15 hounds wiped him out as they went back after the bear! We alls tarted asking why in the heck he let go of that bear hahahaha!!! He was ok, pretty sure a few cracked ribs and possibly a collar bone fracture. We watched the dogs tree the bear on the next ridge and were able to get the kid under him for the shot and his 1st bear.

Steve was looking pretty rough at the 2nd tree. I was able to get in my gear due to where the bear tree'd and got some pics.
