I just finished this commisioned table. It's 52" square and 20" tall. The sides and drawer fronts are bookmatched curly cherry veneer. The top is a four-way matched cherry burl veneer. Secondary wood is poplar and the drawers are soft maple.

enjoy

Brian, when you build a top like this, how do you assure that the veneer is flush with the lumber surrounding it?

Jamie, I run a 1/4" groove around the pieces, and use a snug fitting spline for alignment. It still takes a little fussing and sweating during the glue up to get perfect.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Ben,
The cores for the drawer fronts are glued up to get big enough blanks. They are two blanks splined together. The top concave piece was coved on a 16" tablesaw by running diagonally across the blade. The bottom convex part was made by making a series of angled cuts and then handplaning off the points and sanding. After splining them together the drawer fronts were veneered in the vacuum press. One of the dovetails covers the spline and the moulding, which is routed in 1/8" and rabetted, covers the veneer seams.

Beautiful thread. Can I get a close up of the carved feet? They are definitely Not your normal claw and ball.
