Mine came in this week :)

I wasn't expecting it to come with a plug attached so that was a nice suprise, sort of. I haven't been able to find a receptacle at lowes or home depot to fit it.

I believe the schematics in the manul specifiy 30amp 220v which to me is a 30amp receptacle and 10/3 wiring. Its got a 3hp baldor motor. The current cord on the bandsaw says it is 14/2 or 14/3 which to me means 20 amps.

I guess the question is this. I already have a receptacle wired for 30 amp service that my jointer/ planer uses. Can I switch out the bandsaw plug with a 30 amp plug and use the 30 amp receptacle or do I run a new 20 amp circuit and replace the current plug with one rated for 20 amps?

I wish the manual gave more specific information other than a schematic.

thanks

Hi Steven, a good quality 3 HP motor would be in the 12 to 14 ampere range, no need for a cord larger than #14AWG.

If the machine and the manual have no warnings regarding maximum overcurrent protection ( for example breaker size not to excede 20 amperes) then you're fine putting a 30 ampere plug on it and plugging it into a 30 ampere receptacle.

Regards, Rod.

Steven,

I looked at the Laguna 14" SUV manual online at Laguna tools. On page 11 under the heading of electrical connecton it states you might have to change plugs for one suitable for your use. On page 21 it gives the recommended cable size for a given length of cable.

Steven...we'll see if this link works: http://issuu.com/lagunatools/docs/mband144200--lt14-x-14-suv-bandsaw-manual-rev-5-ap?mode=window&backgroundColor=%23222222

The link works. If your saw is the Laguna LT SUV 14" that is the current online manual. Good luck Steven!

Hi Steven,

A 14 gauge wire is good up to 15 amps, and a 12 gauge wire is good to 20 amps.

I find this link invaluable for determining which plug / outlet to use.

Plus they stock everything:

If you need me to, I can check which plug is on my LT SUV14, but I'm not sure how that will help you.

Ugh,

Page 21 says to use 12/3 if the length is 0-10ft but it comes prewired with about 4 feet of 14?

Hrmm, could you check and see what model of receptacle you are plugging it into? The amps the receptacle is rated for? and what the amps of the circuit breaker?

The plug configuration on mine is the same configuration as a NEMA 6-20, is that the same as yours?

Thanks!
