I mentioned a local tree service dumped a bunch of Eucalyptus logs behind my shop. When they came back to chop it up into firewood, I asked if I could have a couple and if they would cut it up into rounds. They said no problem. Here's what I ended up with. They range from 2 feet to 3 feet in diameter and have burls all over the edges. I've anchorsealed them up, now I just need the time to cut it up into turning blanks. Guess Eucalyptus will be the wood of choice for a while.

Bill, you are lucky my friend. All I have ever turned is rock hard, dry as a bone stuff. Your haul HAS to be a lot easier to work with.

Cool! I wonder if your shop will smell like a cough drop when you start turning.

That ought to make for some interesting stuff...........eucalyptus has interesting grain patterns at times from the pics I have seen posted............never had the opportunity to turn any myself

Looking forward to what you make of these.............

It may be a while before I can get to it, I'm planning a very intricate segmented turning first. Wish I had that VB36 that was for sale recently.

Great haul! (read envy into this). BTW whats with you Arizona folks???? Seems like y'all have wood falling from the skies. And here I always imagined Az. to be a treeless desert. My but I have that image wrong!! Good luck with it, hope no checks develop while we await you next segmented piece. I know I'm anxious to see it.

Congrats on your huge wood score Bill! I kinda like the arrangement the way it is and think you may have found a new market... yard art! Who knew??

Bill, the color is fantastic!! A couple of those larger burls would make some knockout HFs - hope you try one with it. Excellent haul!

You betcha. I need to sharpen my chain saw and knock this stuff down to a usable size. The tree must have been dead for a long time because it's already at about 8% moisture content. Jim, if you are even moderately close, cone on over. I have a lot of crotches and places where branches were cut off and it grew back over the cut. I'll never use all this stuff. Once I get caught up, I'll be wood bombing some of you for sure. Anyone have a link as to the proper way to chop this stuff up toget the best blanks out of it?

Fantastic haul indeed. Love the color of this stuff - does it keep the color after turning, dying and exposing to the sunlight?
You have a lot of work there piled up - better get started.

Apparently what they lack in quantity, they make up for with quality. Mesquite, ironwood, sissoo, eucalyptus... It's like an entirely different country!Nice haul, Mr. Wyko!

Great haul. I wouldn't leave them too long in the round. When I turned some I found here in BC my whole shop smelled just like mentholadum (sp) like the ointment in the blue bottle my mother used to rub on our chests when we suffered from chest colds.

I just turned a bowl and platter from the stuff. I had a piece that I got in a club raffle and I have never seen anything move as much as that stuff. Hard and abrasive on the tools, I had to re-grind when I normally would have just touched up with a hone. but it will produce some great turnings if the warpage does not bother you. It is supposed to move with humidity changes years after being cut and worked.

My little Jet 1442 is cowering in its boots right now. I'm thiiiis close to selling my quad and buying an American Beauty (Steve Schlumpf envy). That'll swing one of these monsters. BTW the picture is only about 1/3rd of the haul. I have a bunch of crotches in a garage as well.
I figure if it splits when turning it, some epoxy and inlace will dress it up. Just some extra character.
