I stumbled across these simple timers made by Belkin today.

Just plug a device (battery charger or air cleaner is what comes to mind) in and hit a button to power it up. 0.5, 3, or 6 hours later it will turn off automatically. They are good for 15A. I found them for $10 at Amazon.
