Knive handle making

I just recently started to make knife handles and am looking for the brass rod to put these on with. My first knife I bought from woodcraft and that knife had the decorative screws with it and worked out really nice.

I have found some brass rod, but to be honest I dont know what kind of brass to look for and also any tips and tricks to make it easier to hammer the brass to fit tight into the handle.

Last but not least I hope this section is okay for posting this, if not just move.

I have purchased brass rod @ Ace Hdwe. Also they have quite an assortment of other metals (Al, Cu) in various sizes--some are even square and hollow--by mixing and matching sizes there are quite a few possibilities one can come up with to secure the scales to the blade. You can use epoxy (even color it!) to keep the "pins"/rod in place. HTH

I found a good selection of brass rod at a local hobby store. Seems to be in demand from model railroaders and radio-controlled aircraft modelers.
