Here is the latest batch of ornaments. The first three are 5" tall and the last one is a large one at 7". The last one is also a joint venture between myself and Johnny Tolly. Johnny presented a few of us with the globes for an ornament and asked that we "finish it off". The globes are (from left to right) quilted maple, copper patina over maple, ambrosia maple and Johnny's globe is mesquite. All have African Blackwood.

So ...Ho Ho Ho....there ya go! I only have 6 or so left to make before the hand operation.

Wonderful job on all Scott, but that quilted maple has a great shape to the globe so gets my nod!

Very nice Scott. You really do a nice job with the globes - very uniform shape. My favorite is the ambrosia maple.

Scott, beautiful work on these! I agree with Baxter on the quilted maple globe, but the icicle work is superb. Do I see a little texturing on the copper patina one?

You mentioned previously some carpal tunnel issues - is that the surgery you are having? I wish you well with it.

Although I'm really drawn to the simple quilted maple one...Ambrosia is becoming my favorite for tree hangers!

Well done...I like them all, but probably agree with others on shape of the AM one.

Very nice group. The icicles are very well done and sized correctly. They continue the curve into the ball very well.

Thanks fellas. John, the copper one does have a texture on it. I textured it, by hand and off the lathe, with my Elf decorating tool just to add a little to the finish. I bought some of the copper patina paints from Hobby Lobby after seeing Micheal Gibson's copper teapot. I don't like to admit it but there is quilted maple under that paint! I cut up a bunch of QM blanks and since they were already turned into globes....well one got the copper treatment! I did, discover that lacquer really tones down the green patina to the point of almost gone. :( I guess clear acrylic is needed to seal that finish.

And yes I am "going under the knife" on December 16th to finally get the carpal tunnel fixed in my right hand, so I have been going out to the shop almost every night to finish up a few projects/gifts. I figure it will be a few weeks afterwards before I will get to turn again. But I am looking forward to start piercing or burning again without my stupid hand going numb after 15 mintutes!

Scott - first very nice ornaments, but that's what we've come to expect from you!

Second, are you seeing a neurologist or orthopedics surgeon? That nerve has two ends and a pinched nerve in the neck can show the same symptoms. My brother just had the surgery (by a neurologist) and the surgeon clained that orthopedics specialists have a low (50%) success rate because they don't test for damage at the other end since they don't operate there.

I am going to an orthopedic surgeon. I am fairly confident my particular problem is in my hand/wrist. When gripping things for 15 minutes or so, three of my fingers (excluding my index finger and thumb) go dead numb or pins and needles. No other issues anywhere and it 90% of the time only happens when I grip something. It stinks and I have been putting up with it for 10+ years, but its getting progressively worse and frequent, so I'm getting it taken care of. My Doc is one of the top fellas in our area and I have talked with several people who he has done this proceedure on and all report 100% success. So... worse case I will be duct taping the gouge handle into my hand!

Hand update:

I met with the Dr today and he has scheduled a nerve test the day before the 16th (scheduled surgery day) and IF the nerve guy says he believes it IS carpal tunnel then the surgery is a go. If not we start thinking about possible elbo nerve issues. Uhgggg. I just want it fixed.

#1 and #3 rock. The others are very nice but those two have a "little something extra" that set them apart.

Those are all very nice Scott, but I keep getting drawn back to the QM one, something about the simple contrast and the curl just draw me in.
Good luck with your surgery and have a quick and uneventful recovery!
